HOW TO KEEP YOUR ROOF IN GOOD CONDITION

Our roofs are the only things between us and the harsh elements of nature, and because of this, they often take a beating from rain, hail, snow and heavy winds. If your roof hasn't been taken care of, it can start to show damage because of it.

Even if your roof has a tiny hole because of neglect, that tiny hole can allow water access to the inside of your roof which will cause water damage, which if left unchecked can cause thousands of dollars' worth of damage to your house.

There are a lot of things you can do in order to strengthen your roof and keep it in good condition.

  1. Clean it

More often than not, there will be some kind of debris on your roof that could cause damage such as leaves, twigs or small branches so getting them all off is step one. Also washing off any tree sap, bird droppings or any other substance that has stuck itself there.

  1. Clean out your gutters

Your gutters are what drain any water that falls on your roof and deposits into either your drain or water tank, but they can become clogged up from leaves and other types of debris. Cleaning them out will not only help with the water flow but is also essential if you live in a bush fire zone.

  1. Fix any dents/cracks ASAP

If you see any type of damage on your roof, no matter how small it needs to be dealt with ASAP since even a small dent can cause a lot of damage in the long term.

  1. Apply weather sealant

Applying weather sealant is a great way to protect your roof from the elements, but it's not just rain and hail it will be protected against but UV rays as well. You need to think of your roof like you think of your skin, too much exposure to the sun while your unprotected causes your skin to burn. While your roof will not burn from too much exposure, it will become weaker if not correctly protected.

  1. Repaint it

Having any chipped paint on your roof exposes the bottom layer which may become damaged, so it's essential to inspect your roof regularly and see if it needs a paint job.

It's important that you do keep track of any problems you see with your roof and to contact professionals if you need any help, If you live in and around the Wollongong, Campbelltown or Southern Highlands area and need a professional to come and inspect your roof then look no further than Seal a Roof.
